I stuck my head into the books, analysed Sections 1 and 2 to the best of my ability, and devised a strategy that helped me improve both, with Section 2 increasing by 20+ points. I scored 84 and 86 (top 0.1 percentile) in Section 2 in my next two sittings, with both scores being more than adequate for entry into The University of Sydney.
Hello everyone,
My name is Tawhid and I am an MD2 student at The University of Sydney. After completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University, I sat the GAMSAT and did very poorly. I was gutted. I knew unless I changed my preparation drastically, my lifelong dream of getting into medicine would be over.
The University of Sydney was my dream medical school and due to their emphasis on Sections 1 and 2 I knew this is what I had to work the hardest for.
After I began tutoring and recommending my strategy to others, I saw similar and even greater improvements with my students. The strategy I implemented worked with students of diverse backgrounds- from Native English Speakers to International students with English as their Second/Third language. For each and every student, I devise a uniquely tailored program that works to improve their weaknesses and emphasise their strengths.
I believe many students have a misguided approach when tackling Section 2. They try to adopt strategies that work for others and in the process they lose their uniqueness. Section 2 of the GAMSAT can ask you anything, and the topics they require you to speak about are anyone’s guess. In such a chaotic environment, your score will not be improved using a formulaic approach. ACER is looking to see what makes you unique, and it is my duty as a tutor to help you express that in a confident, eloquent and professional way.
